Mind Bender # 6 : Solution
The idea of introducing these monthly challenges was to help you to stretch your thinking. But sadly, some people are simply using Google to discover the solutions.
This month, the challenge was to come up with the common words that contained five consecutive Vowels and Consonants.
The emphasis being on “consecutive” and “common” …I’m not sure about you … but I don’t consider words like: Anschluss & Postphrenic to be exactly everyday words.
So, let me tell you the individual words those who embraced the spirit of the challenge came up with.
There’s only one common word with 5 consecutive Vowels- Queueing
But a few more with 5 consecutive Consonants
- Witchcraft
- Nightclub
- Birthplace
- Gypsy
- Rhythm (actually has six)
So, how did you make out — working it through by yourself?
Next week, I’ll give your challenge for June — and you will certainly need to give that some thought.

Hi Chris What about aquaeous???? Although can be spelt without the e. Not a common word.

Aquaeous’ certainly is a common (general usage) English word. Perhaps relatively unknown, or forgotten, by many people, but in these days of drought and water restrictions it will certainly become better recognised and remembered. A word we all used and were familiar with in high school. Looking forward to next month’s challenge, Ken

Obviously, you’re both quite right — although I’m not sure everyone would be totally familiar with this word.
There were a number of other asnswers submitted … but we’ve just upgraded the Blog software, and it was a little difficult to bring them across.
